With hope in the resurrection, we commend to the Lord Reverend Richard Joseph Schlenker, who died Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the age of 88.

Born on March 5, 1931, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Father Schlenker began his priestly formation at Holy Cross Seminary, Notre Dame, Indiana (1948-1949). He continued his studies at Saint Francis de Sales Minor Seminary (1949-1950), and completed his formation for the priesthood at Saint Francis de Sales Major Seminary during the period of 1950-1956. He was ordained to the priesthood by Most Albert G. Meyer, Archbishop of Milwaukee, on May 26, 1956, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Milwaukee.

Father Schlenker was appointed to his first assignment on June 26, 1956, to serve as assistant at Immaculate Conception Parish, Burlington. On June 8, 1965 he was appointed to the faculty at Pio Nono High School, Milwaukee, and on June 1, 1970, became a member of the faculty at Saint Francis de Sales College. On July 1, 1988, Father was appointed to the Sacred Heart School of Theology faculty in Hales Corners; he retired from active ministry on March 31, 1999.

A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Father Schlenker will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Clement Manor Chapel in Greenfield (3939 South 92nd Street). Priest friends and former colleagues are invited to concelebrate; please bring an alb and white stole. Per Father Schlenker’s wishes, there will not be visitation prior to the funeral Mass.

Members of the Purgatorial Society will please offer the prescribed Mass for the repose of his soul and include Father Schlenker’s intention in the General Intercessions at the parish.

May he rest in peace.
