John William Davies, age 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by a loving family at Froedtert Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday, September 9, 2019 after a valiant struggle. Beloved husband of Sharon (nee Gotz) whom he spent 26 years with. Born in Dubuque and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, mother Alice (nee Becker) and brothers Kenneth and Roger Davies. He is survived by four sisters: Barb Hill (Harry) Elkhorn, Nebraska, Linda Zimpleman (Forrest) Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Judy Henley (Roger) Fairfax, Iowa, and Kim Hunter (Bill) Phoenix, Arizona.

John was a Vietnam Era Veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and serving two years in Germany from January 1971 to January 1973. He received an Honorable Discharge, a National Defense Service Medal, 1st Class H/Grenade and SharpShooter Commendation.

John retired on May 2nd, 2016 as a Business Development/Project Manager from Gestra Engineering Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Gestra Engineering, Inc. is a consulting firm specializing in geotechnical, civil and construction materials engineering, laboratory testing, and geotechnical/environmental drilling. The family would like to thank Masud Alam, P.E., President of Gestra Eng., Inc., all of his co-workers and Concrete Cares for all of their concern, support, assistance and understanding while John was going through his Liver Transplant, Recovery and beyond. All of whom are an amazing group of wonderful people and extraordinary friends.

John received a Gift of Life: Liver Transplant at Froedtert Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 19, 2016. The family wishes to thank Dr. Johnny C. Hong, his Transplant Surgeon, exceptional Transplant Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Froedtert Memorial Hospital Transplant Unit and ICU, who cared for him with utmost expertise, professionalism, and compassion. His Transplant Coordinator, Jackie, who he loved and had complete confidence in, called often. We thank the numerous and various Specialists, the VA Hospital, Doctors and Staff, for all of the excellent care they provided for him. We want to thank the Palliative Care Team for keeping him and our family most comfortable during this difficult time. We are most grateful to John's Liver Donor and their family for making the Gift of Life possible for John's courageous life journey. John was a special man who was liked by all he worked with, all who cared for him and will forever be loved and missed.

John was truly an all inclusive sports fan: Golf, Baseball, Football, etc. He loved history, travel, grilling out, picnics, family gatherings, gardening, movies, nature and quiet times on the patio, watching and listening to the birds. He was the most caring, giving, supportive, patient, gentle, comical, loving husband, family man, and Papa to all of the kids that he could be. He always thought of others and he deeply loved his entire family. His friends were also most important to him.
