Joan Heyne was born Joan Grace Moeller on September 24, 1925, in St. Paul, MN., and was born to eternal life on January 27, 2020, in Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death by loving husband Edwin (2012) and dear son John Mark (1979). She is survived by Timothy (Kathleen), Christine (David) Ploof, Deborah (David) Jasso, all from the Milwaukee area, and Nora (Brad) Hayes, Romania. Joan was a loving and much loved grandma to 9 (and countless others who call her grandma) and great grandma (GG) to 14. She was an energetic and selfless pastor’s wife throughout Ed’s years in the ministry, first in Oklahoma, where she helped Ed through a bout with polio and later saved the lives of her four young children during the deadly 1955 Blackwell tornado. In Amarillo, Texas, Joan volunteered at the VA hospital and used her artistic ability to paint and draw illustrations for Sunday School and church presentations, and also found time to have her fifth child, Nora. In Milwaukee during the 1960s, and throughout the 1970s in Oklahoma City, she and Ed endured the heartbreak of seeing son John diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and loved him through many years of home and hospital stays until he found peace in Jesus in 1979. In 1980, when Ed took a chaplaincy in Oakland CA, Joan worked as a grief counselor for the Neptune Society in downtown Oakland. The Heyne’s came back to the Milwaukee area in 1986 to spend their retirement years near the kids and grandkids. Their final move on this earth was into the Terrace Apartments at Luther Manor in 2005. Joan volunteered her time working in the Den of Antiquity, leading exercise classes several mornings a week, and reading the Bible lessons in church one Sunday a month, all this up until her hip fracture two days before Thanksgiving, 2019. After a heroic and difficult 2 months, God in His mercy took her peacefully and quickly to her eternal rest on Monday morning, January 27. Soft spoken, kind and gracious, Joan was a true child of God who showed His love to her family, her friends, and everyone whose life she touched. We look forward to a grand reunion in heaven someday!
