Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Rosario and Congetta Cannistra, and his siblings: Stefano, Mary (Emil) Zach, Don, Jeannette (Eric) Eydam, Frances (Joe) Giamo, Stephanie (Bob) Kelley, Joe (Vi), and Rose Ochalek. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Trojahn, and his great-grandchildren: Abby, Ellie, Ty and Luke Kalina, Carly and Colt Smith, and Ella and Dylan Cannistra, along with dear nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.

Visitation will be at St. John the Evangelist Church (8500 W. Cold Spring Rd.) on January 4th at 3:00 pm until the Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00 pm. Private Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Steve was a former employee of the Wisconsin Gas Company. He was a founding member of St. John the Evangelist and he and his wife co-chaired the initial festivals. Prior to St. John's, he was highly involved at St. Mary's in Hales Corners.

For over 40 years, Steve and Lu hosted weekly family spaghetti dinners and he enjoyed sharing his baked homemade Sicilian foods. He was an avid reader, loved to share stories, tell a clever joke and sing a song for you from the past.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Camp Whitcomb Mason, which was a life-changing opportunity for him as a young city boy, or St. John the Evangelist are appreciated.
