Obituary for Roger Gene Brinkmeier

Roger Brinkmeier of Hales Corners, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday February 16, 2022 at the age of 80.

Roger died peacefully at his beloved Hales Corners home with his son Todd by his side. He was born in Freeport, Illinois on January 20, 1942 to parents Robert and Lena (Lee) Brinkmeier (nee Borelli).

Roger, and his parents moved to Hales Corners in 1946 where he resided until 1964. He and his wife Gloria (nee Zeilstra) and son Todd moved back to Hales Corners in 1976 where he became a lifelong resident.

Roger was deeply committed to serving the community he loved, serving two terms on the Hales Corners Board Of Trustees as well as numerous leadership and benefactor roles in the Hales Corners Lions Club, Whitnall Park Rotary, Hales Corners Historical Society, Historic Milwaukee, and Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens.

He pursued a career in the technology starting in the early 1960s and worked a majority of his career at Journal Communications, retiring in 1996 as Vice President of Technology. Roger was a lifelong enthusiast of technology and continued to help many with their technology challenges after his retirement.

Roger and his wife were deeply committed to education and supported numerous public and private education programs. Roger had many passions beyond the support of his beloved Hales Corners throughout his life including auto racing, boating, trains and trolleys, photography, gardening and music.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife of 51 years Gloria. He is survived by his dear friend Carolyn Berry, son Todd, sister Sharon (Duane) Hause, niece Chris (Ed) Umnus, nephew Ken (Kristin) Hause, Brother In Law Fred (Jane) Zeilstra Jr., nephew Daniel Zeilstra and niece Kelly (Adam) Goforth.

A visitation for Roger is planned for Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 10 am to 1 pm at Whitnall Park Lutheran Church, 5847 S Lilac Lane, Hales Corners, Wisconsin. All are invited to attend. A brief service will follow beginning at 1 pm.

People wishing to honor Roger’s lifelong commitment to his community and church can make donations to the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens or Whitnall Park Lutheran Church.
