Obituary for Phyllis Tamel (Spinney)

PICKEREL / MILWAUKEE (Nee Spinney) Age 95. Passed away peacefully on March 29, 2022, surrounded by her family at the golden age of 95.

Phyllis was born in Eliot, Maine on April 15, 1926, to Advil and Elsie Spinney. She was one of 8 children. She graduated from Eliot High School in 1943. Shortly after graduating, she met the love of her life, Tony Tamel on a blind date. After a short courtship they wed on Septmeber 16, 1945, in Eliot Maine. They spent 39 wonderful years together living in Eliot, Maine, Milwaukee, Pickerel and Lily. Together they ran Pickerel Point Resort. While managing Pickerel Point, they made it a very family friendly resort. Families came back year after year to enjoy their vacations and to watch the magic shows they put together. One family enjoyed their time there so much that the children purchased the resort and ran it for several years.

She also worked at McCormick Klessig Insurance Agency in Antigo until retirement. She moved back to Milwaukee in 2011 to be closer to her family.

She lived out her last years spending time with her daughter Nancy and Nancy's husband, Rick, along with her grandchildren and their families. She traveled with them frequently to Florida often staying in Punta Gorda and visiting Walt Disney World. She even went on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. She loved her family and loved helping her daughter Nancy babysit. She often read books to her grandchildren and loved making memories with them. Family was always important to her.

She always wrote journals to keep her memories fresh and would read them often. She was very witty, creative and added her own special touch in letters to family and friends. She was a fierce competitor with board games including her favorite game, Aggravation. She enjoyed playing this game with family and close friends of Nancy's.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tony, her parents, and sisters Dorothy, Jeanette, Betty, Ruthie, brothers David and Douglas.
