Obituary

"Age 71.. Born into eternal life March 9, 2020. He was the loving husband of Joan (Joni) Kells. Beloved step-father to Jeffrey Janik (Amy), Joe Janik (Amanda), and grandson Braeden Janik. He was preceded in death by his father Robert and mother Lenore.

Mike loved biking and drumming. He was well known throughout the Milwaukee/Waukesha area for his awesome drumming. He enjoyed working with many local bands over the years, and surpassed all expectations from all the muscians he encountered. His drums and motorcycle were among his cherished possessions. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts."

I have great memories of jamming Trower, Hendrix and other great covers in Mike's studio out in Troy. Mike was a great drummer with a lover of personal freedom. I will miss him.

I also met Mike and Joni when they adopted Inky. I remember the welcome signs were posted a couple miles from their home. It was such a warm and wonderful feeling knowing that Mike wanted to make sure we found Inky’s new home. When we arrived, Mike was sitting outside on a stoop waiting (patiently) for us. While patience wasn’t his strong suit, I admired the way he tried to refrain from running up to the car and taking Inky into the house immediately upon our arrival.

Mike was not an easy person to understand, he had a hard exterior and you had to look past this shell to see a softer individual. He loved his wife, he enjoyed playing in his band, he loved taking bike rides with Joni, and he cared deeply for their dogs. I feel sad that he is gone. His humor and zest for life faded too quickly. May he be in a peaceful place with all his dogs that preceded him in life, especially Inky!

I met Mike and Joni when they came to my dog rescue to adopt a gorgeous female dog ...when we went down to bring "Inky" to them....we found road signs that said "Inky- this way" all the way up to the door. We knew right then and there "Inky' had found her forever home...and she did. Mike and Joni adopted more dogs from us throughout the years and provided a loving home for all of them. There are many memories of Mike.....one that I remember fondly was that when I needed help building an outdoor enclosure for animal rehabilitation purposes...Mike was one of the first to be there....Joni as well. We worked for hours and we got it done....Mike was laughing because we had to miter some of the panels and he kept asking me to oversee.....he was turning the board around so that the cuts wouldn't connect.....I said Mike think of a picture frame and how it goes together.....and he laughed like a thunderbolt had just gone off......and looked at me and said 'well why didn't you say that in the first place?" Despite this little bump in the road....Mike stayed until the end when everything was just right.....and it was a long drive to our house for them. Mike was someone I could always count on and he will be missed. I'm sure he was met at Rainbow Bridge by all the dogs and people he loved who went on before him......
