Obituary for Margaret Ann Trandel (Johnson)

Margaret Ann Trandel, age 93, of Mount Pleasant, WI passed away on November 7, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Margaret was born in Chicago, IL on October 26, 1930 and was the first child of Forrest & Margaret (Nee Jensen) Johnson. After a loving childhood set against the backdrop of WWII, she went on to graduate from Saint Adrian’s Academy for Girls in 1948. Furthering her education, Margaret earned a BA degree in Social Work from Saint Francis Xaviar College in Chicago, proudly graduating in 1952.

While working at the telephone company, Maggie attended a card party at the Polish Club in Chicago. She didn’t play cards and she wasn’t Polish, but that night she met Jerry, the love of her life.

On November 24, 1955, Margaret & Jerome Trandel were married at St. Adrian’s Catholic Church in Chicago. They enjoyed a loving, 59-year marriage until Jerry died in 2014. Maggie, as a serial talker, found her perfect mate in Jerry, a serial listener. Together they ran the family laundromat business and spent many years square dancing with the Circle 8 square dance club.

As a lifelong member of Saint Lucy in Racine, she taught religion classes for many years and faithfully prayed the rosary every day.

Her distinctive laugh could never be missed in a crowded room.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Paul (Margaret) Trandel, Karen Trandel and Kristen (Andrew) Pomeroy; grandchildren, Holly (Steven) Barnes, Heather (Jeremiah) Bell, Edvinas Sulis, Lina Saulyte, Aaron (Melissa) Pomeroy, Benjamin (Sarah) Pomeroy, Blaise Pomeroy and Ivan Pomeroy; and great-grandchildren, Nolan, Lily, Violet and Hadley.

Margaret is further survived by her brother Edward (Virginia) Johnson, her sister Mary Walsh and sisters-in-law Mary Ann Johnson and Joan Trandel and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, one brother, Jim Johnson, brothers-in-law Jack Walsh and Bernard Trandel and sister-in-law Arlene Trandel. She was also preceded by many dear friends over the years.

Margaret’s family would like to thank Tierra and Chaplain Paul from Compassus Hospice for their kindness in Mom’s final days.

A visitation will be held at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., Racine, WI 53403 on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 10 am to 10:45 am. Funeral Mass 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family appreciated.
