Margaret Ann (Dejnowski) Flaig

MILWAUKEE, WI – Margaret Ann (Dejnowski) Flaig of Milwaukee, WI passed away around 11:11 AM on April 23, 2020 at the age of 81 peacefully with a view of a garden, flowers and the animals she so cherished.

Marge Flaig was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 22nd, 1938 to Paul and Sophie Dejnowski. Marge is survived by her two children, daughter Dawn (Flaig) Helmrich and husband Morgan, and son Peter Flaig and wife Dolores; her granddaughter, Britny; her grandsons, Clayton and Peter; her sister Terry Scovel and husband, Jerry; and her niece and nephew Kathleen and Scott. Marge will always be remembered by her best friends Katie and Chuck Weske and Kathleen Gibart, and many other friends and family. A special thanks to Mary Ellen Helmrich who would come and read to Marge every week. Marge is preceded in death by her parents and her dear pugapoo companion Max. In keeping with her wishes there will be a private celebration of life once the pandemic has ended.

There is no adequate way to describe the truly genuine person our mom, grandma and friend Marge was. In the words of her grandchildren she was kind, generous, thoughtful, intelligent, loving, strong, considerate, optimistic, brave, dedicated, and funny. Marge was the first in her family to graduate from college; she earned a degree in sociology from Alverno College in 1960. She had a fascinating career as a buyer for several departments in the Boston Store located in downtown Milwaukee, which allowed her to travel back and forth to New York. She changed jobs several times after that, successfully juggling work and caring for her two children. Jobs that Marge enjoyed included a grocery checkout person at Gold’s Shop-rite on the corner of 76th Street and Mill Road, and a home-shopper for the elderly. Marge always had a passion for and fascination with numbers. She ultimately established a rewarding career as a revenue agent for the IRS, and was a woman at the forefront of her profession. While working for the IRS, she took great pleasure in helping people find ways to work with the government to pay their taxes, and spent many hours helping taxpayers to get themselves out of financial trouble.

At the age of 76, she was diagnosed with two different types of cancer, and managed to beat them both. Even when the cancer returned at age 79 she continued to fight, and she was determined to live to watch her grandchildren grow up. She was the nicest, kindest, bravest person with the biggest heart that any of us has ever known. Marge never received a single parking ticket or a speeding ticket, in her entire life. After her most recent diagnosis, when she entered hospice back in August, we hoped that we would all be able to spend Christmas with her, which we fortunately did. Marge kept on fighting bravely to Easter, which is one of her favorite holidays with her grandchildren. Our mom did everything that she could throughout her life to stay in the house that she built for her and her children, a house that she loved and enjoyed up until a week before she passed away with a beautiful backyard flower garden, families of robins and cardinals, and the fattest squirrels that you can imagine. She had the most beautiful, innocent spirit and was so incredibly funny with the best sense of humor. Our mom could bring joy to people, no matter what the situation. She loved to sing to her grandchildren, dance, watch movies and play with them. There was absolutely nothing on this planet that she would not do for someone. Her life was full of love and laughter, without a complaint. She taught us what it meant to live life to the fullest, give back to others, and never stop telling the people that you love that you love them.

We thank the staff at Zilber Family Hospice and Comfort Keepers for the grace and kindness you showed our mom until the very end. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Zilber Family Hospice.
Mom-Grandma, although we will never be able to replace the spirit of happiness and joy that you take with you, we are so grateful that you have found peace.

You will forever be loved and forever missed.
