Obituary for Loren J. Kohel

Born on February 27,1936. On February 21,2023, Loren J. Kohel passed peacefully in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He was 86 years old.

Loren is survived by his loving wife Shirleeann (nee Krotts); his children Susan Knapp (Jeff), Robert (Elaine), and Linda Pesch (Tim); his grandchildren Robby Pesch (Kari); Amy Paprocki (Dave); Ryan Pesch (Jenn); Andrew Knapp (Amanda); Evan Knapp (Allison); and Aaron Curran Knapp (Alaina); his great grandchildren Madison, Charlie, Penny, Polly Pesch, Aoife Curren Knapp and Elsie Paprocki, and his sister Joan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sylvester Louis Kohel and Mary (Mae) Clementine LeRoy, his brothers James and Mark.
Loren met Shirley when they were 16 years old. They were married in 1955 and started their family the following year.
Loren earned a Master Plumber certification and eventually became head of the University of Wisconsin Facility Services.

Loren's passion was playing drums in polka bands since he was eight years old. He played in the Rhythm Makers with Pat Deangolo, Gene Keller, and Harry Lonski. He played with Spike Micale's band and with Verne and Steve Meisner and Frank Bevsek during the 1960's and 1970's. He finished his polka career playing in Louis Bashell's Band as the drummer and singer. The band played often at the Blue Canary, Melody Bar, church picnics and various local festivals, like all the wonderful hometown bands.

Loren also developed a passion for fishing in northern Wisconsin with his step-father Bill Luebke. He started his fishing career on Nelson Lake near Hayward and became an expert walleye fisherman. Later, he would take his family to a lake around Eagle River where he chased muskellunge and pike while getting advice from all the bait stores in area.

Later in his life, Loren discovered golfing with his father-in-law, William Krotts.

A good man with a good heart and a good soul. Loren led a long, full, and happy life. We will miss his laugh, warmth, humor, mischief, unbending readiness to share, and to help those in need.

Husband, Father, Friend, and Neighbor.

A life well lived, Loren Kohel. Now and forever, in our thoughts, our prayers, our hearts.
