Obituary for June K. Peterson (Kerner)

June Peterson (nee Kerner) found peace on May 12, 2021 at the age of 98. She was born on June 5, 1922 to Julius and Winifred Kerner in Oak Park, Illinois. In 1941 she married her true love Norman.

June was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her beloved Aunt and Uncle James and Harriet Anderson, and cousin Elaine Johnson whom she spent a great deal of her childhood with.

She is survived by her daughter Julia (Steven) Berndt, Grandsons Michael, and Nicholas. Her cousin Jean Cryor, who was more like a sister to her, and niece Diane Hussey.

June was a talented artist, a lover of animals, anything dark chocolate and very proud of her Austrian and Czechoslovakian heritage. She spent most of her life in the Chicago area. In 2000, she moved with Norm to San Camillo, in Wauwatosa to be closer to her daughter, but it was always a little too far north for her.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Camillus Assisted Living Facility, and St. Camillus hospice for their care and compassion in her final days.

Memorials in June’s name can be made to The Elmbrook Humane Society, or the Humane Society of your choosing.

A memorial celebration will be held June 5, 2021 at Hales Corners Lutheran Church 12300 W. Janesville Rd. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am.
