Obituary for Jane M. Kovnesky (Lewandowski)

Jane Kovnesky (nee Lewandowski), lovingly known as “Ma”, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023, at Park Hills West Assisted Living Facility in Hales Corners at the age of 91.

Jane was born to Frank and Mary (nee Rakowski) Lewandowski on March 27, 1931, in Milwaukee. She was raised on the south side of Milwaukee with her siblings Agnes “Ag” and Sylvester “Syl”.

She was a 1949 graduate of Pulaski High School in Milwaukee, where she was a member of the Polish Club, the tumbling team, and the Girl’s Glee Club. After high school, she found employment at Dutchland Dairy, Schusters on Mitchell Street, Kubiaks Drug Store, retiring from Fulton Manufacturing Corporation.

Jane lived in West Allis most of her life, purchasing her home in 1952 where she raised her four children, Jeff, Jay, Janell, and Justin. She lived in the same house on 89th Street until 2021 when she moved into Park Hills West.

She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Mary Lewandowski, sister Agnes “Ag” Pizzala, brother Sylvester “Syl” Lewandowski, and son-in-law Daniel O’Donnell.

She is survived and will be deeply missed by her children Jeff (Lisa), Jay (Patty), Janell (Tony), and Justin (Debi); grandchildren Jessica (Dave) Mudgett, Jodi (Erik Sulk) Meeks, Carlton (Britta Brinkmann) Kovnesky, Kelly (Nick Miller) O’Donnell, and Joey, Jack, and Lucas Kovnesky; and great-grandchildren Austin, Alyssa, Tyler, Brady, Bradley, Owen, and Carter. She is also survived by her brother-in-law James Pizzala, sister-in-law Patricia Lewandowski, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Jane was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family and dogs. Her house was always open to the friends of her children, who often referred to her as a second mom. Her family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Park Hills West and Preceptor Home Health and Hospice.

A private family memorial is to be held.
