Obituary for Gary Arland Zudonyi

Gary A. Zudonyi
July 6, 1949 - December 28, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Zudonyi, beloved husband, father, brother and friend. Gary was born on July 6, 1949, and his life unexpectedly ended on this earth on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.

Gary grew up in South Milwaukee to Frank and Darlene (Washburn) Zudonyi, who both proceeded him in death. He graduated from South Milwaukee High School and had an associate degree from an area technical school, which used in his more than 45-year role as a draftsman at Metropolitan Survey Services.

Always a quiet guy, Gary was well known for his vast sense of humor and practical jokes. While in high school, he once participated in an instrumental show-and-tell where he successfully played the shoe horn by using a doll squeaker in his mouth and acting out the rest. He had a subtle, witty and quiet sense of humor, but the wait was always worth it.

Gary also loved to work with his hands. As a young man, he and his dad built their family cabin from the ground up, and it's still standing! With the help of his family, Gary also built a deck and beautiful gazebo on the back of his house. Using the full workbench in his basement, Gary helped decorate countless households with holiday crafts, bird feeders, bird houses and trinkets you never knew you needed.

Throughout his life, Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing in both warm and cold weather, deer hunting annually, working outside on anything he could get his hands on and snowmobiling. As a young man, he served as president of the Jack Pine Savages Snowmobile Club in Adams County and made memories that are still shared today.

Gary loved music, he loved to read and learn new things, and he was the king of useless trivia. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Gary will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Janis (Konicki); son Scott, wife Jessica (Gradecki), grandkids Kyra and Brady; son Craig, wife Corinne (Streit); brother Robert, wife Barbara (Kunowski); sister Betty and husband Randy Schaefer; nephew Jamie Zudonyi; and niece Maegan and Mark Sienko.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Hartson Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. with a short public service at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please donate to the American Diabetes Association.
