Obituary for Gary A. Schmidt

Gary A. Schmidt, age 68 from Mukwonago, WI ran out of words on June 29, 2022.

Survived by wife Terry Jo (Ogle), daughters Stephanie Schmidt and Stacy (Thomas) Bell. Further survived by grandchildren Jasmine, Terrence, Sydney, Nathan and Maya and great-grandchildren Aaliyah, Naomi, Eli and Murphy.

The kids always called him Bubba and enjoyed his stories of Jack! Also survived by his mother Louise and sisters Mary and Julie.

Gary worked for the banking industry most of his life and retired at 59½, but his hobby and passion was being a member of a volunteer group called The Milwaukee Fire Bell Club, as well as publisher of the MABAS WI newsletter, which stands for Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. His skills and attention to detail will be missed.

Gary would take plenty of rides around Milwaukee and knew the city like the back of his hand. Hence the family would always call him for directions, he was our own personal GPS. The family would also call Bubba for weather updates so they could make sure any plans they have would not be spoiled! He would always joke that he should’ve became a weatherman!

Gary enjoyed his time with friends, playing sheepshead or Hearts and entertaining us with his very detailed and long stories. He loved to travel to Las Vegas and play roulette and he also liked cruising with friends. He always wanted to go to some place warm and then would sit in the shade because he was hot, but we did manage to talk him into an Alaska trip, which he loved.

Gary loved the Packers and was even a shareholder and loved to watch the games alone so he wouldn’t miss anything. He even banned Terry from watching since she was a jinx.

It would be hard to find someone like Gary (Bubba), he was one of a kind. He will be deeply missed and forever loved!

A celebration of Life will be held Saturday July 9, 2022 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W Janesville Rd, Hales Corners WI, 53130. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Gary’s honor to The Milwaukee Fire Bell Club, 300 S 84th St, Milwaukee WI 53214 or milwaukeefirebellclub.com.
