Obituary for Franklin Evans

Frank Evans, age 88, of Glendale, died September 21, 2022.

Survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet Boles; daughter Christine Evans (Nick Fleisher); and grandchildren Lydia and Abe Fleisher. Also survived by his sister Megan Evans and brother David Evans.

After leaving Haverford College, he moved to Los Angeles to become a sports car mechanic and drive in autocrosses. In 1962 he received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico and moved to Houston to do mission planning for the Gemini and Apollo programs. After the space program wound down, he received an MS in Computer Science from the University of Houston and began his final career, college teaching. He was a professor of computer engineering at Milwaukee School of Engineering from 1981-1999.

Frank enjoyed owning and repairing cars including an MG, Mustang, Porsche, and Ferrari. After retirement he hiked the entire Ice Age Trail and worked with several social justice groups. His final passion was manned exploration of Mars.

A memorial service will be held at the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee at a later date. Memorials to this church or the ACLU Foundation.
