Frances Mary (nee Perkowich) Barak

Peacefully slipped into the arms of Our Lord and was reunited with her beloved husband George on January 2, 2021, at the age of 101.

Cherished mother of Patricia (Vincent) Sciano and Christine (James) Filipiak of Sun City West, Arizona.

Loving and caring grandmother of Jennifer (Sean) Blachley and Daniel (Donna) Sciano.

Preceded in death by her father John, her mother Matilda, her brother John Anton and her sister Matilda Graef. Frances was the last living member of the Perkowich family. She also enjoyed a special friendship with her long-time friend, the late Marian Broich.

She is further survived by her sisters-in-law Helen Barak and Evelyn Nessman, her brothers-in-law Robert (Shirley) Barak and Carl Barak, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Frances possessed a very strong faith all her life, was very giving, and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed help in any way. She was an avid reader, delighted in gardening and was lover of nature with a special fondness for birds.

A very special and heartfelt thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, aides and staff at Layton Terrace Senior Community and VITAS Healthcare for their kind, loving and compassionate care in the final months and days of Frances’s life.

Mom, you will live in our hearts forever… Until we meet again.

Fran always had a cheerful smile every time she visited me at the front desk. I shall always remember her. She warmed my heart.

Whenever I would think of aunt Fran it always put a smile on my face. I would think of her lively personality and how upbeat she always was whenever we saw one another. Speaking of which, it was so funny how many times we would just bump into each other in Hales Corners. Usually at an eatery like Panera Bread or Burger King but sometimes just on the street. We always had a good laugh each time. Once we moved from the area we still kept in contact with cards and letters and the occasional get together. It was especially nice celebrating her birthday a few years ago. Aunt Fran always inspired me with her zest for life and her common sense approach to things. I'm so glad that she lived such a long life and blessed others with it.

Grandma - I will never forget you. You were a beautiful woman inside and out. You were little in stature, but so very strong. I always felt your love and caring and how proud you were of your family. I take comfort in knowing that you are in a better place and back with Pops. We were so lucky to have you as part of our lives for so long and your influence will forever live in me. I love you so much!

Thank you Mom for all that I have learned in my life from you. You instilled in me the love of books, nature, photography, gardening and sewing. My generosity to others is inspired by you. You will remain in my heart always. God bless you and Dad and keep you both in His loving hands. Love you Mom and miss you. Love, Christine and Jim

First of all, my condolences to Fran’s family. Having said that, we all have had better lives because of being with Fran. I smile and have nothing but positive memories of Fran while reading her obituary. She was always wanting to participate and share with others at Layton Terrace. She thrived on those Zoom contacts with her family. I could hear Fran and Kelly laughing during them and always smiling afterwards. God’s blessings and peace as you reflect back on her life.
