Obituary for Elwood "Barney" Feigley
Born to life in Hagerstown Md. to James and Ruby Feigley in 1925. Born to Eternal Life at the age of 95 on Good Friday, April 2, 2021 surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Finally reunited with Rosetta, his loving wife of 70 years. "Barney" is survived by his son Brigadier General James (Peggy) Feigley, daughter Cheryl (Jan) Festge, daughter Kathy/Kate (Bill) Graser. He is further survived by his grandchildren Matthew (Amanda Corty) Graser, Jessica (Dr. Jake) Tokar, Elizabeth/Lizzie Graser, and Daniel Festge. He is also survived by his brother Harold (Debbie) Feigley, sister Nancy Baker, and many nieces and nephews.
"Barney" experienced many defining events that shaped his remarkable life: he lived through the Great Depression, saw extensive combat as a sailor in the Pacific Island battles of World War Two, graduated from MSOE, celebrated the births of his children and grandchildren, and was a proud lifelong brewery worker and supervisor at Miller Brewery. "Barney" absolutely loved duck hunting with his son and friends, was an ardent baseball and Brewers fan who followed them every single day, and always looked forward to the fall to cheer on the Badgers and Packers. He also loved golf and played every chance he had.
Most importantly he loved his family, his friends, and literally everyone he met. He was a man of unconditional love in every sense of the word. Dad offered unfailing kindness, was perpetually happy, smiling and optimistic, and was a man of quiet but immense courage in the face of pain and adversity. He saw and deeply appreciated the miracle in everything, no matter how simple or small. The 'art' of personal conversation has lost its most joyful and accomplished practitioner. His endless stories and silly songs will be greatly missed by everyone.
A celebration of Barney's life, which will be open to all who knew him, will be announced in the Journal Sentinel at a later date this summer due to present COVID restrictions. Interment will be with his wife Rosetta at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
