Obituary for Donald A. Gardner

Donald A. Gardner

Born into Eternal Life December 3, 2020 at the age of 87 after a brief illness.

A lifelong resident of Milwaukee, Don graduated from Don Bosco High School and spent his working years as an electrician, first for Scholbe Electric and then for Roman Electric.

Don’s favorite place on this earth was his cottage on Green Lake, and the more people he could share it with the better. He also enjoyed participating in sports of all types: boxing, bowling, fishing, softball, trapshooting and hunting, to name a few. And he always supported his Packers, Bucks and Brewers, in good years and bad.

A giving individual, Don sponsored children, helped build churches and supported a family farm project, all in Guatemala.

Don will be remembered and greatly missed by his surviving siblings Jerry (Jan) Gardner, Barbara Thut, and Richard (Diane) Gardner, along with many nephews, nieces, and friends. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert. As one nephew put it: “for a man with no family of his own, he had the biggest family of all.”

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3222 S 29th Street, Milwaukee. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at noon. (To join the Visitation and Mass virtually, see the Zoom link info below.) Internment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery. If attending, masks are required but formal attire is not; in honor of Don, jeans are encouraged.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held this summer (after Covid restrictions are lifted).

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Salesian Missions are deeply appreciated. Donations can be made online at www.imis-salesianmissions.org/imis/SALdonate or a check (with “In memory of Don Gardner for Fr. Puthenpura’s Farm Project” on the memo line, if you like) can be mailed to: Salesian Missions, 2 Lefever Lane, New Rochelle, NY 10801, Attn: Kelli Bochnik.
