Obituary for Dewey B. Gay

Dewey Gay, age 90 went home on March 5th, 2021 at home. Dewey was a loving dad, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Dewey served our Country as a Marine during the Korean war. He touched so many people through his involvement with Boy Scouts, youth group, ushering, dartball, Bible Study and Hi-timers at Hales Corners Lutheran Church. He was a caregiver for many including his mother, mother-in-law and wife. When his children were young, he loved camping, spending 2 weeks at a time in the car with his kids, wife and mother-in-law. More recently he filled his time with going to Brewers games, playing dartball, cutting the grass with his son’s riding lawnmower, attending musicals, sporting events that his great grandchildren were in, doing jigsaw puzzles (many could be found on his walls), word searches and chasing the squirrels from the birdfeeder.

Dewey was preceded in death by his childhood “sweetheart” Grace. Survived by his children: Phillip (Ann Blumreiter) Gray, Gail (Bruce) Kriel, Robin (Ken) Palzewicz, Edward (Phyllis) Albright and Arthur (Judy) Albright. Grandfather to Amanda (Christopher) Groth, Melissa (Jeremy) Bonow, Douglas (Carissa) Gray, Lisa Krieg, Amy (Aaron) Chapin, Lori (Jacob) Calteux, Justin (Melanie) Krieg, Joseph Palzewicz, Jonathan Palzewicz and Joshua Palzewicz. Great Grandfather to Ethan, Alex and Matthew Groth, Aria, Silas and Theodore Bonow, Zachariah Strahota and Claralynn Gray, Skylar Krieg, Abigail, Ashlen, Alisha and Amber Chapin, Renee and Virginia Calteux, Lexi, Hunter, Caitlyn and Jared Krieg. Brother to Janet (Chester) Wesolowski. Survived also by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. His family extended beyond these to many who saw him as a father figure and grandpa.

Dewey was proceeded in death by his parents, Clifford and Irene Gay, Siblings Phyllis, Willamae, Richard and daughter-in-law Terri Gray.

Dewey was a long-standing member of Hales Corners Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held at Hales Corners Lutheran Church, 12300 W. Janesville Road, Hales Corners, WI on Thursday, March 11th from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. Private Burial will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dewey’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Milwaukee Branch of Stars and Stripes.
