Dave grew up in Milwaukee and attended MPS elementary and high schools, graduating from Custer High School.

His father Elias Muench ran a tree service business and Dave learned tricks of the trade, retaining saws and other tools for decades.

Enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and his stateside service during the Korean War was one of the highlights of his life.

Met Eileen Weisenberger while they both were living at the Knickerbocker apartments and they married in May 1968 at St. John’s Cathedral in Milwaukee. Daughter Sarah was born October 17, 1969.

Worked in multiple roles for Milwaukee city government offices and knew all the shortcuts for pedestrians traversing downtown. A map-reader who knew directions well and took a keen interest in everyone’s routes.

Lover of fine classical music including listening to Obie Yadgar on WFMR radio. Played the clarinet including a brief stint in a community orchestra.

Avid reader of books on history, historical fiction and all books by author Ken Follett.

Dedicated viewer of programs on Channels 10 & 36 including PBS and BBC mysteries and dramas; MacNeil/ Lehrer Report; Washington Week in Review, and Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser.

Big fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, watching almost every game on TV and attending a few Brewers games at Miller Park and Brewers On Deck with his daughter Sarah and son-in-law Rich.

Another favorite was Friday fish fries including trips to the old Smith Brothers in Port Washington with Eileen and Sarah.

Dave enjoyed nature walks and bird watching including visits to the Schlitz Audubon Center. While living in Brown Deer after retiring, he rode his bike to a part-time job at the village recycling center.

He cherished trips taken during his single days including to Europe and Niagara Falls.

Dave’s late-in-life residence was Heritage Elm Grove assisted living -- initially with Eileen, who passed away in September 2018. He was beloved by staff members at Heritage and the family is grateful for their care and service over the years including Dave’s final days.

The family also thanks the AseraCare Hospice team for their dedication, hard work and kindness the last few weeks of Dave’s life.

Memorials appreciated on Dave’s behalf to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Memorials to the family gratefully accepted to cover funeral and burial costs.
