Obituary for Darlene Catherine "Dolly" Papp

Darlene C. "Dolly" Papp

Born to Eternal Life on September 24th, 2020 at the age of 78. Preceded in death by her parents Martin and Emily (nee Kropf) Papp, brother Joey and sister Shirley. Loving mother to Starr (Roger) Schwarzenbacher, Lance Schwarzenbacher, and Kent (Chris) Schwarzenbacher. Also survived by six grandchildren including Violet, Stephanie, Jacob, Joshua, Kailey, and Alex; and five great-grandchildren including Akasha and Adrianna.

Dolly retired after twenty years of service in the Army Reserve as Sergeant First Class. She said “the Army made me strong” and strong she was till the end. Her favorite pass-time was watching the “Bold and the Beautiful”. Mom didn’t want to be bothered by anyone during that half hour. Any doctor appointments had to be scheduled before or after her soap. Even during hospital stays, nurses knew better than to bother her during the show. She loved entertaining family and friends, always making enough food to feed an army! Afterwards she would play tunes on the accordion while we all sang along. We traveled a lot as a family through most of North America. However, after kids were out of the house mom took to the skies and traveled to China and Africa. Like her sister, they both loved dogs. Mom bred boxers and kept a couple for dog shows that brought home some ribbons and trophies. Mom liked to collect gnomes of all sizes for the back yard along with fake animals like deer, turkey, geese, and even a coyote for those times when she just wanted to relax in her own wilderness.

Our thanks and sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and the nurses and staff at Allay Home and Hospice for their exceptional care of our mom, Dolly.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 3rd at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 21731 Spring St. Union Grove, WI at 10am. Please arrive 15-20 minutes early in main parking lot.
