Charles “Charlie” “Tuna” Schmidt, age 68, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019.

He was a devoted husband to his wife of 43 years, Janet, and a cherished father to his two daughters Robyn (Joe) Freville and Carrie Schmidt. He was also a proud “Papa” to his grandson, Conor. Charlie will be greatly missed by his 2 brothers Steve (Kathy) and Kevin (Marnie) and the rest of his family and many, many friends.

Charlie loved and worked serving the community as a police officer for 30+ years with the Greenfield Police Department, and also as a 3rd generation member of the Hales Corners Fire Department for 30+ years. Charlie loved anything that involved lights and sirens and helping people and the community, but was extremely humble and private about all of his accomplishments.

Per Charlie’s wishes, there will not be any funeral services held; however, in “Charlie fashion,” the family will be planning a celebration of his life, with a time, date and place to be determined, and will be announced by the family once the details are worked out.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, Donations to "The American Cancer Society" appreciated.

I knew Chuck since Little League in the early '60s and later we worked together at HCPD into the early ‘70s. We still managed to stay in touch all those years since. I will truly miss him not being there, as he always was – we had so many stories yet to tell. His love for his family and service to the community will be long remembered. To family, friends and relatives, the deepest of regrets but for Chuck - a life well lived!!! Jon & Karin Fehr, San Antonio, TX

Dear Janet & Family,
Our heartfelt condolences on your loss. Charlie was one of those special people that come along "once in a lifetime". I first met Charlie when I worked for Hales Corners Police. He came on board as a dispatcher and Police Auxiliary officer. We worked many shifts together and many times he would do a "ride-along" after his dispatch shift ended. We shared many laughs together. We also worked together at the Fire Department.
Tuna was the most upbeat person I ever knew. His smile was infectious. I will miss seeing him in the neighborhood and cutting his grass. The world is a better place because of him. He will truly be missed. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Janet and family,

Kathy and I were so very sorry to hear of the that Charlie had passed. I worked with Charlie for many years at the Greenfield Police Department. Charlie had a big smile, but he had an even bigger heart. If you were lucky enough to be able to have Charlie as a friend it meant that you had a friend for life who stand beside you in good times and bad. It did not matter if Charlie was working serving the citizens of Greenfield as a police officer or the citizens of Hales Corners a firefighter, he was going to be there in a time of need.
Charlie Schmidt was my friend and he was taken from us all far too soon. We are all better people for having the honor of having him in our lives.
Deepest sympathy,

Bill & Kathy Tiegs

You are in our prayers and belief that Charlie rests with God.

A good number of people have crossed our lives but none as good and thoughtful as Charlie. Always the champion for the best in everyone he met. All who met Charlie knew they could trust and rely on his friendship. He will be
missed as the caring gentleman he was.
