Obituary for Amparo Lopez

Amparo Lopez, born in Coahuila, Mexico on May 5, 1945, joined our heavenly father on May 15, 2023 at the age of 78. She was surrounded by her family as they treasured her last moments.

Amparo is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jose, and children: Jorge (Cindy), Jose Jr. (Erica) and Diana (Tyrone). She was also a beloved grandmother to grandchildren: Ruben, Marria, Nico, Jazmine, Simon, and Armando. A well-loved member of her community as a small business owner, she will be remembered by many through her famous Mexican dishes.

Amparo immigrated to the United States in 1967 bringing with her the very recipes that would shape one of Milwaukee’s legendary bakeries. In 1973, Amparo along with her husband, Jose, opened the first Lopez Bakery on the south side of Milwaukee. She worked tirelessly to perfect her many dishes that are served today at Lopez Bakery on Historic Mitchell Street and farmer’s markets across Southeastern Wisconsin. Her memory will live on in her famous tamales, salsas and other Mexican dishes. Most notably, Amparo will be remembered for her role as a dedicated mother, wife and grandmother. She was a woman who carried herself with dignity, strength and love to the very end and will be missed greatly.

Please join us to celebrate and honor the life of Amparo Lopez on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Visitation will be at Hartson Funeral Home from 3:00-6:00pm.
