Alice Lillian Saiia (nee Perttunen), age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 6, 2021, with her family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of her late husband, Nick A. Saiia. She is survived by her son, Bradley Saiia (Cheryl) and her daughter, Sandra Strike (Mark). Alice was “Nana,” grandmother, to Joshua (Nichol), Jonathan, and Nicholas M. Saiia.
Her parents had been Louis and Hilja Perttunen, and her older siblings in order of age were Edwin, Norman, Hazel, and Elsie.
Alice was born and raised in Republic, Michigan. She began working in Detroit, Michigan before moving to Milwaukee, WI. There she lived near the corner of N. Prospect Avenue and E. Park Place. While single, during World War II, she worked for Schlitz Brewery, and after the War, bookkeeper for Murphy Diesel Company. Finally, she worked bookkeeping for a time with her husband for their family’s painting contracting business. After World War II, Nick A. Saiia courted Alice L. Perttunen, and they married in 1948. She became a widow in 1993.
Alice enjoyed traveling, speaking Finnish with her father and mother, spending time with family and friends, hot fudge sundaes, and lots of black coffee! She lived a fruitful life and leaves those who love her with rich and meaningful memories.
Instead of extending donations or flowers Alice would wish for you to express genuine love and comfort to those you value.
Alice’s family wishes to thank all who had shared in caring for her in all forms. They extend a special thanks to her final caregiver, Donna, for her loving, loyal, and exceptional care.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday May 22, 2021 from 1-3 pm. with a memorial service at 1:30 pm.
